   the majorette

I idolized her
she was in my family
and I barely knew her.
Her name was Sheila and she was beautiful.
Her mother told me one day when I was small
that she would make me a little outfit like the
blue velvet one she had
with silver sequins.
I'm still waiting

She got older as I
I think about that door where it hung
I remember my Aunt Virginia telling me
that I could dress up like her
and my mom reminding me that
it was just a tale

I learned then
to stitch my own
pretty things
