my granny made me runny cheese toast and never complained
I remember hearing my mom one time say how expensive it was
Mamaw always made it, anytime we asked
My other grandmama let us have little bottle cokes
They kept them in the shed with the chicken feed by the cases.
I remember lying on quilts out on the grass
In her backyard. I remember watching life float by and unfurl.
She grew little tomatos along with zinnias
I used to think I wanted to be rich
and have a pool and a color tv
Dolls that I never had and their clothes just right.
I have since sensed the real beauty of what I had
priceless images fill my senses now & then.
I am blessed in an ordinary way
