   My Sidewalk Friend

I passed her house often
So neat and trimmed

I met her when she was my millionaire friend's maid
Multi millionaire

Betty was white
She treated me nicer than she should have
I was more common than she
And there I was
Rubbing shoulders with aristocrats

I almost used to wish for her job
Living around in the mansion

The mansion burned
Struck by lightening
Betty is under investigation
Months apart

Here I sit in my cowboy rain boots
Wearing a cap of many colors

Mollie had a beautiful new collar

I noticed in Betty's trash that the pet
Ate the nicest food
Her coat was smooth and silky
Molly was a weenie dog
The last time I saw her
She tangled herself around a crepe myrtle
Stalking Stuart the cat

Betty turned and told me she would see me later
She was my sidewalk friend
Walking west
